Biographical Sketch
 
Dr Looi Chee Kit is the Associate Professor in Learning Sciences and Technologies Academic Group, National Institute of Education, Nanyang Technological University. He was the Head of Learning Sciences Lab from January 2004 to June 2008. Currently, he is the Head, Centre of Excellence for Learning Innovation(CELI) from July 2008. He was the principal investigator and key designer of several educational technology systems in his past stint in government-funded research institutes in Singapore. The systems he developed include a web-based multi-user collaborative environment which has been used in various projects involving Singapore school students as well as students from other South-East Asian countries; a word-problem solving learning environment which has been licensed to industry; and peer-to-peer technology for supporting group collaborative work which has been patented. He has given keynote and invited talks in Australia, China, Finland, Japan, Hong Kong, Macau, Malaysia, and Taiwan. He is a member of the executive committee of the International AI & Education Society, regional editor of the Journal of CAL as well as an editorial member of the International Journal of Computer-Supported Collaborative Learning. He has published more than a hundred papers in conferences, journals and chapters of books. He is also currently the External Examiner for the Chinese University of Hong Kong's MA programme for IT in Education.
